The Brief: To redesign a very open, windswept and extremely sunny, South facing Nursery School Play Area.
The Large Play Area of this Nursery School was extremely worn and uneven lawn with more open dirt than existing grass. The whole fencing around the Nursery School Playground was completely see through chain link fencing. The theme for this Nursery School was to create a Natural School Environment for the Infants which would encompass Sustainable Infants Schools Garden features, Nursery Schools Sensory Garden Areas and an Infants Schools Digging and Infants Schools Vegetable Growing Areas.
A natural screening of plants around the Nursery School boundaries was extremely important, both as Privacy for the Nursery School Infants as well as to provide a wind break from the strong South Coast Prevailing Winds. The whole area of this Nursery School was to be separated by low fences to form different areas of interest and Nursery School Play Activities. A New Lawn and new Nursery Schools Planting, in this large barren Infants Playground was a main Criteria. The Nursery School Play Area required trees to provide shade and required Four Seasons School Planting in all areas.
Further shelter in this Nursery School Playground was required and was supplied by the inclusion of various attractive Open Side School Timber Buildings.
These included an Infant School Thatched Gazebo, a Nursery School Open Sided Pavilion, an Infant School Open Sided Verandah, a Nursery School Plant Covered Pergola and an Infant School Adventure Play House.
Further shade areas were provided in the Nursery School Play Areas by the construction of Infant School Tree Seats around 2 new Weeping Silver Birch Trees and around one old very large Oak Tree.
The various Nursery School Areas were filled with all forms of Infant School Activities and Nursery School Games including Sand, Water, Music, Tricycle Pathways, A Rolling Down Hill, Tunnels, an Infants School Wigwam, a Nursery School Wobbly Bridge and an exciting Nursery School Timber Activity Unit.
A Nursery School Quiet Garden was constructed, complete with areas for investigating insects, areas for digging, areas for growing, a Bird Table and a Bird Bath.
