Key stage 1 and 2 Playground Construction and Design in Birmingham
In the heart of Birmingham, right beside the bustling St Andrew’s Stadium, a once dull asphalt playground has been transformed into a truly jaw-dropping Key Stage 1 outdoor haven.
The Headmistress envisioned a space that felt natural, calming, and inspiring—not just for children, but for staff too—and the result is nothing short of remarkable.

“We are ridiculously proud of our new playground—it’s basically the Beyoncé of outdoor spaces.
It ticks all the boxes: safe, inspiring, and packed with enough excitement to wear out even the most energetic child (and a few staff members too).
Watching the children learn, explore, and grow in confidence each day is wonderful—mainly because they go home happily exhausted.”
Nature takes centre stage throughout the space. A dedicated soil digging area encourages hands-on exploration, while large timber planters house established olive trees and strategically placed palm trees for a unique, almost Mediterranean feel.
Raised beds overflow with sensory plants, ensuring year-round colour, texture, and fragrance—perfect for curious young minds.

More about this Design
At the heart of the playground stands a striking octagonal timber pavilion, topped with cedar shingles, offering a sheltered hub for both learning and relaxation. Nearby, a thriving fruit and vegetable garden supports outdoor education, allowing children to plant, nurture, and harvest their own produce.

“It’s honestly incredible what they’ve done with the space. My child used to come home a bit restless, but now they’re happily worn out and full of stories about what they’ve been exploring outside.”
Privacy was a key priority.
With the school located next to a busy stadium, a clever double-layered trellis system—combined with a black membrane—creates a secure, secluded environment where children can play freely, away from outside distractions.
The result is a vibrant, multi-functional space that feels like a hidden green sanctuary—safe, stimulating, and full of life.
