A significant aspect of the project involved areas of the existing playground and surrounding buildings that had fallen into disuse and become dilapidated. Rather than removing these completely, they were carefully refurbished and thoughtfully incorporated into the new design. This approach not only preserved elements of the original environment but also supported sustainability by reducing waste and reusing existing structures wherever possible.
At the heart of the playground is a network of beautifully crafted sensory mosaic pathways, linking classrooms and outdoor areas. These pathways introduce colour, texture, and visual interest, encouraging children to move freely and interact with their surroundings. Raised timber planters, filled with carefully selected all-year-round sensory planting, provide valuable opportunities for hands-on learning, enabling pupils to explore nature through touch, smell, and observation.
